I used to be a club reviewer for the much-missed British dance magazine Muzik (they gave me my first music job) and also wrote for the Welsh Music Foundation's Sound Nation. Steve Reich (b. New York City, NY 1936) is one of four universally recognised pioneers of the musical minimalist movement. Developing in America from the mid-1960s, minimalism paved the way for a wide spectrum of musical activity, including house, techno and electro. Enormously influential on a generation of musicians and producers, Reich’s beautifully repetitive compositions continue to sell CDs and concert tickets by the bucketload. (more…)
